Beautiful, luxury and central hotel. The entrance is stunning. Amazing bar area. Room was comfortable and clean. Dressing gowns and slippers. Great tea, coffee and snacks selection. Temperature control in room. Complimentary drinks and mince pies. Meal in Refuge a little disappointing. When we walked into bar area there was a DJ playing very loud music. This was on a Monday night and just did not fit in with the beautiful surroundings. We were shown to our table in the fantastic dining room but could still hear the booming music. People were talking loudly over the top, so it was very noisy. Good selection of starters but if you order hummus or a dip you have to purchase flatbread separately- that is not right. Limited main courses. My husband just had a starter and chips. My main course was very small. It was good but meal was overpriced. Breakfast was very good. We had a lovely stay but would not eat in the restaurant again. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Really welcoming arrival. Staff generally were very pleasant. The room had an amazing high ceiling and the style of it was great, being in a converted bank. Food at breakfast - really good amount of selection and should cover all tastes. It was a rainy weekend and there is an umbrella in every room for guests, which is a great touch. Also the food and drink in the room is all complementary (but don't get excited, there's no alcohol. It's limited to a couple of bags of crisps, tea and coffee bags and caramel wafers). Whilst we didn't have time to take advantage, they also offer a welcome drink for guests in Refuge which is attached to the hotel - only between 5-6pm.

My room was huge. I used the hairdryer, iron and ironing board and yoga mat, and enjoyed the fresh milk in the fridge for making tea - a very welcome touch. When I asked to change rooms because of hearing the bass from a party's music I was given a new room without a problem - in fact Gabrielle was charm personified. The bed was big, linen was good quality and facilities everything you might hope for. All the staff in the hotel, bars and restaurants were well-chosen and well-trained: friendly, professional and nice to talk to.

The whole experience of the hotel was exceptional from the moment we arrived, Staff on reception were attentive, hotel was in fabulous condition, the room was great, bathroom and shower also. The breakfast was superb, again with attentive staff, engaging in conversation with us and a beautiful setting. The location was also fantastic, being within walking distance to pretty much everything. The next time I am in Manchester, I will be booking again.

Gary

Well located close to the City centre with easy access to trams etc. Our room was comfortable, large and well furnished. The hotel ambience was great and for the most part the hotel staff were helpful and engaging (but not always at breakfast time!) The receptionists were very helpful and knowledgeable about the history of the building as a former insurance company. All the features have been largely retained which only adds to the overall feeling.
